Announcing the Formation of the Internationalist Workers Group (U.S. & Canada)

Communiqué on IBRP Work in North America

The editors of Internationalist Notes (Canada) and Internationalist Notes (U.S.) met last spring in Montreal to discuss how best to advance the International Bureau for the Revolutionary Party's work in this part of the world. This meeting followed the IBRP's break with the ultra-localist Los Angeles Worker's Voice as well as other more encouraging developments in the IBRP's international work. After having discussed the political situation as well as having appraised the state of our present forces in relation to the political tasks at hand, the following decisions were taken:

  1. As of the end of April 2002 all supporters of the IBRP in both countries unite their forces in a new entity: the Internationalist Workers Group, IBRP Organizing Committee in the U.S. & Canada.
  2. The new group will continue publication of Internationalist Notes in French and in English as a quarterly.
  3. The IWG is based on its own platform and statutes. (See our platform on page 7)
  4. A plan of publication as well as a division of labour was adopted for the next twelve months, including the election of a delegate to the IBRP's international meetings and to its central organ the Internationalist Communist Review, an editor for the new joint publication as well as a member responsible for the different technical tasks.

The new group will strive to develop the forces of Internationalist Communism in our two important countries and support the IBRP's work towards the formation of the International Party of the Working Class, the revolutionary overthrow of Capitalism and the construction of a true Communist society worldwide. We call upon all individuals and groups sharing this perspective to join us in this crucial endeavour.
