Leicester meeting - what might a libertarian communist society be like?

How could a libertarian communist society meet people’s needs and desires?
What are the objections to a communist/anarchist/socialist society and how can they be responded to?
Not wanting to be all misty-eyed and utopian about things, especially given the current low level of class consciousness… it’s still worth looking at what we ultimately would like to see in place of the system we live under now.
So given that such a society has never existed, what might communism look like? Could it possibly work? If so, how would it work? What kind of problems might a stateless, society based on the principle of “from each according to their ability to each according to their needs” face?

The Russian Revolution remains a landmark event in history. For the bourgeois historians, the October Revolution is thought to be a tragedy that set back the achievements of the “democratic” February Revolution, and allowed the Bolsheviks to wreak havoc on their citizens and the world. For the Stalinists, the events of 1917 paved the way for the birth of the USSR, which they point to as a prototypical example of “socialism in one country”. In reality, the February and October Revolutions were both part of the same proletarian revolution.
