30년 넘게 지속한 우크라이나에 대한 지배권 다툼이 왜 이제는 전 영토에서 전면전으로 번진 것일까? 같은 이유로 생활비는 전 세계적으로 천정부지로 치솟고 있다. 자본주의 체제의 쇠퇴는 경제 위기가 심화하고 있음을 의미한다.(그리고 이것은 대유행 때문만은 아니다)
30년 넘게 우크라이나는 빈약해져 가는 국가의 부를 대부분 통제하는 40명 정도의 과두 정치인을 통해 두 개의 주요 언어 집단 사이의 권력 투쟁이 있었다. 그리고 투쟁하는 파벌 배후에는 서방과 러시아 제국주의가 공존하고 있다. 소련 붕괴 이후 나토(NATO)는 17개 국가에서 30개 국가로 확대되었고, 이미 발트해 연안 국가의 러시아 정문에 탱크를 배치했다. 2004년부터 나토와 유럽연합(EU)은 우크라이나를 자신의 영향력 안으로 끌어들이기 위해 노력해왔다. 2014년 서방의 지원을 받은 마이단(Maidan) 시위가 친(親)러시아 대통령을 전복시킨 후 푸틴은 행동을 취했다. 그는 돈바스(Donbass)에서 러시아 분리주의자들을 지원하여 크림반도를 "탈환"했다. 그의 의도는 우크라이나를 약하게 유지하려는 것이었지만, 나토의 무기 공급은 우크라이나 군대에 새로운 힘을 실어주었다. 따라서 병력증강은 현재의 위기를 초래했다.
서방세계는 러시아의 병력 철수를 요구했고, 푸틴은 우크라이나의 나토 가입 반대를 요구했다. 어느 쪽도 양보하지 않자 푸틴은 침공을 결정했다. 우크라이나 시민들은 위기에 처한 자본주의 체제의 "부차적인 피해자"이다. 어느 쪽도 더는 양보할 여지가 없다. 우리는 위기와 역사에서 새로운 국면의 정점에 서 있다. 이것은 새로운 "냉전"이 아니라 훨씬 더 위험한 것의 전조이다. 푸틴은 이미 러시아가 핵보유국임을 서방세계에 상기시켰고, 침공 첫날 서방세계가 개입하려는 어떠한 시도도 "세계가 지금까지 결코 보지 못했던" 결과를 초래할 것이라고 으름장을 놓았다.
우크라이나의 위기는 또한 2020년 이후 급속히 진행되고 있는 제국주의 결속의 통합을 강조한다. 이 위기에서 미국은 유럽이 (마지못해) 자신의 노선을 따르도록 강요할 수 있었다. 독일의 노드스트림2(Nord Stream) 승인 중단 발표는 미국을 위한 하나의 승리였다. 한편 중국과 러시아는 무역협정을 체결했고 러시아는 중국의 주요 연료 공급국이다. 의미심장하게도 러시아와 중국의 무역은 현재 달러가 아닌 유로화가 89%를 차지하고 있어서 미국의 영향력에 타격을 준다. 이러한 경제적 분리는 더 많은 경쟁의 길을 열어준다. 2020년 러시아와 중국은 처음으로 일본과 가까운 동태평양 지역에서 합동 군사 훈련을 했다. 기후변화보다 더 인류의 미래를 첨예하게 위협하는 광범위한 제국주의 전쟁의 무대가 열리고 있다.
노동자들은 어떻게 나락으로 떨어지는 것을 막을 수 있을까? 러시아의 많은 "전쟁 반대" 시위대의 용감함에도 불구하고, 시위만으로는 부족하다. 2003년 이라크 전쟁 반대 시위는 영국 역사상 가장 큰 규모의 시위였지만 전쟁은 계속 진행되었다. 그것은 적어도 수백만 명이 공식적인 거짓말을 받아들이지 않았음을 보여준다. 우리는 국가 권력 약화를 위한 파업 투쟁에 나서기 위해 수백만 명이 움직일 수 있는 운동을 해야만 한다. 이것은 가까운 시일 내에 실현되지는 않겠지만, 계속되는 자본주의 위기는 모든 곳의 노동자에게 더 많은 고통을 의미한다. 이러한 악화에 맞서 싸우는 것은 우리가 살 수 있는 모든 세계에서 가장 좋은 곳에 사는 것이 아니라 오늘의 궁핍과 내일의 제국주의 전쟁을 제공하는 세계에서 살고 있음을 인식하는 운동을 만들어야 한다. 이미 이란에서 미국에 이르기까지 전 세계의 노동자들은 투쟁과 독립적인 형태의 조직을 위한 자신의 방법을 찾기 시작했다. 이제 시작이다. 그러나 필요한 것은 자본주의가 국제적으로 끝장났다는 것을 인식하는 노동자들을 단결시키고 조직하는 반(反)자본주의 정치의 나침반이다. 이것은 빨리 일어나지 않을 것이고, 많은 걸림돌에 직면하겠지만, 현재 수십 년간 지속한 자본주의 위기는 해결책이 없다. 전 세계의 노동계급만이 국가, 민족주의, 착취, 전쟁이 없는 대안 사회를 제기 할 수 있다.
전쟁이 아니라 계급전쟁을! 우리에겐 쟁취해야 할 세상이 있다!
