Striking Mexican Teachers

For several weeks, striking teachers have paralyzed much of the state of Michoacan, as they protest the non-payment of salaries, benefits and bonuses. Thirty-one municipal headquarters and the offices of several state agencies were occupied by the striking workers. Simultaneously, other fellow workers went straight for the jugular of regional capital by blocking all major rail lines for 18 days. As of Friday, Feb1st, teachers were no longer blocking the rail lines at four of their camps but continued to refuse passage to trains at three other locations. One rail line stated that the partial clearing of tracks at four locations was a token gesture as the company’s trains could still not resume service with the continued occupation of the remaining sites. (Not sure where this strike stands as of today). Rail blockages have halted over 251 trains carrying an estimated 2.1 million tons of freight and stranding over 8,200 shipping containers. Private sector reported losses are so far estimated to exceed $1 billion US. The only thing Trump has to fear coming over his wall, are class conscious workers. PM
