Cameron and his mates can claim an ever-poorer population is recovery but the reality of the UK’s dire situation means this winter the Red Cross will start collecting and distributing food aid to the needy in Britain for the first time since the Second World War, as welfare cuts and the looming economic mega-depression force ever-growing numbers of people to soup kitchens and food banks across Europe.
In a report released in October 2013 into the devastating humanitarian impact of Europe’s financial crisis, the Red Cross recorded a 75 per cent increase in the number of people relying on their food aid over the last three years. At least 43 million people across the Continent are not getting enough to eat each day.
Meanwhile UK rich bastards like Tory Lord Freud claiming in June that families using food banks were simply after free meals or Education Secretary Michael Gove who said last month that users were often those who could not manage their finances properly are trying to talk up a recovery as debt fuels the Ponzi schemes that leave so many of us jobless or trying to live in underpaid underemployment clinging to the edge of a society run by and for the elite.
With winter approaching and fuel bills expected to rise massively, Chris Johnes, poverty director for Oxfam in the UK, said he was “genuinely shocked” that the situation had got so dire that the Red Cross must intervene. “They don’t do things for reasons of grandstanding at all,” he told The Independent. “The fact that they are doing this... is a very clear signal how serious things have become.”
Our ruling class scum calculate we will continue to take the shit end of the stick in the name of some fictitious national, all-in-together, big society fairytale; they’ve reduced wages, child support and benefits and the introduction of the controversial “bedroom tax” has only made the situation worse.
Not surprising since their sick system has nothing else to offer but worse. It’s all over the planet. The Red Cross say 120 million Europeans are in or on the brink of poverty. As austerity bites and unemployment, underemployment and crap jobs with crap wages erode all memory of the brief post-war recovery, now decades in the past, even organisations like the Red Cross can see the writing on the wall for capitalism. Nations where a quarter of the population is unemployed have caused the Red Cross to say unemployment in Europe was “a ticking time bomb” increasing the risk of social unrest and upheaval. Even in Luxemburg, the richest nation in the EU, with a per capita income of about £67,000, the reality of wealth polarisation lying behind the ‘’happy’’ average means even there the Red Cross is running a programme providing food to the needy. France has seen 350,000 people fall below the poverty line from 2008 to 2011. Greece sees soaring suicide rates alongside its unemployment and poverty figures.
It really is time to get these capitalist vultures off the steering wheel, throw out the bastards who make the poor poorer, and put an end to this madness which can call mass misery, unemployment, poverty accompanied by piles of debt to finance speculation for the rich any sort of “recovery’’. The system is rotten to the core. No tinkering around the edges will make any difference; the only brighter future on offer means the funeral of capitalism. Ant
