Welcome, Bilan & Perspectives!

Publications:

We were pleased to receive the first issue of Bilan & Perspectives, the French publication sympathizing with the International Bureau for the Revolutionary Party (IBRP). The launch of this magazine is a sign of a modest but real strengthening of the IBRP’s influence in that country as in other parts of the world.

Reform or Revolution?

Publications:

A review of “Trotsky, Trotskyism, Trotskyists” by the Communist Workers’ Organisation of Great Britain · Our comrades from the Communist Workers’ Organisation (CWO) have published, in autumn 2000, an extremely well documented pamphlet on Leon Trotsky and the movement that continues his work and name, Trotskyism.

May Day 2001

Publications:

Only the working class can end the nightmare of capitalism - This statement is based on a longer critique of the recent Summit of the Americas issued by our comrades in Canada; it is being distributed by the IBRP and its supporters in Europe and north America · Capitalism is not the best system in a bad world. It is the single most important cause of the world's misery.

An Austrian comrade on the “New International”

Publications:

Our reply to the main points is contained in the second article on "Towards the New International", now appearing in our Italian magazine Prometeo and that will be translated in the IC 20 · Dear comrades of PCInt., CWO and IBRP! Dear M.! · [...] · In my last letter I criticized the attitude of the IBRP in relation to the other currents of the communist left or "proletarian camp", which shows itself...

Trotsky and the Origins of Trotskyism

Publications:

The Origins of Trotskyism · We begin by examining the basis of the myths manufactured by the Trotskyist movement and its supporters. Their glowing claims have bona fide roots in the prestige Trotsky gained as chair of the 1905 St. Petersburg Soviet, as leader of the Red Army, and as a martyr to Stalinism in 1940.

Trotsky and the Internationalist Communist Left

Publications:

Our criticisms of Trotsky are not based on abstract moralising with the benefit of hindsight. In the 1920s and 1930s there was a revolutionary opposition to the degeneration of the Communist International which based its critique of that degeneration on the methodological premises of Marx and Lenin and which used that method to criticise Trotsky himself.

Trotskyism after Trotsky

Publications:

The Crisis of Trotskyist Analysis since 1989 · By the end of the 1960s the boom years of capitalism which followed the mass destruction of the Second World War were giving way to the accumulation crisis which continues to plague the world economy today. Since that time forces of consistent Marxist internationalism have revived and strengthened themselves, seeking to maintain and defend the...

Appendix A - Natalya Trotsky breaks with the Fourth International

Publications:

We reproduce below the statement made by Trotsky’s widow, Natalya, when she broke from the Trotskyist movement. Her reasoning was that their concessions to Stalinism had resulted in their definitive abandonment of proletarian revolution. The two key factors which she refers to are the Trotskyists’ decision to categorise the Moscow-dominated states in Eastern Europe as “deformed workers’ states”...

Appendix B - Trotsky and Trotskyism: The Chronology (1879-1943)

Publications:

As can be seen in the pamphlet, our method is not to argue against Trotsky the man. This is not simply because argumentum ad hominem is useless as a way to understand revolutionary history but also because we absolutely reject the bourgeois idea that history is really the history of great men. The life of Trotsky (and indeed of Lenin) is adequate testimony to the fact that individuals are not...

World March of Women - Reform or Revolution?

Politics:
Publications:

Manifesto at the Women's Day (2000) · After centuries of fighting for freedom and equality, what have we got? · we still earn less than men for the same work - globally we earn 40% less; · Equal Pay legislation has failed. In those countries which introduced legislation - some more than 30 years ago - women still earn 75% of male wages (in the US it’s more like 58% if you’re not white); · ...

Editorial

For over a decade the International Bureau had to face increasing political isolation as the working class lost confidence in itself under the blows of economic restructuring and political disorientation (the twin myths of the collapse of communism and the disappearance of the working class). However, as the old millenium breathes its last we are encouraged by a marked resurgence of interest from...

Prague S26

Regions:

Only the World Working Class can Put a Stop to Capitalist “Globalisation” · (IBRP Statement on the occasion of the September protests at the IMF/World Bank meeting) · This time it’s the turn of the bureaucrats of the World Bank and the IMF to run the gauntlet of “anti-capitalist” protests as they gather in Prague for their 55th annual general meeting.
