Politics:
Regions:

Introduction · The 25th anniversary of the workers’ rising in Hungary of October 1956 gives us the opportunity to demolish both the myth of reactionaries that it was simply a nationalist rising without any particular working class content, and that of the libertarians who blind themselves to its failure and to its reactionary national aspect in order to praise the councilist form it took.

Regions:

(Article continues from RP#38: · The Working Class in Latin America · Marx always recognised that the basis of the proletariat’s antithesis to capitalism was forged on a daily level in the struggle for immediate economic goals. Class struggles in France, Human Rights, Democracy and Profit

The class struggles which forced the French government to retreat on the new contract of first employment (CPE - Contrat Première Embauche) are a welcome development. These struggles, which are discussed in depth in texts in this edition, indicate the working class is beginning to fight back against the attacks of the capitalist class.

Car Workers - Only International Unity Can Bring Victory!

Regions:

Although the economic crisis in Britain doesn’t officially exist, with pundits and politicians all talking up the health of UK plc, its effects nevertheless continue to devastate parts of the working class. The latest sectors to be hit are car workers at Peugeot and Vauxhall. Less than a year since MG Rover announced 6,000 job losses, Peugeot has announced the closure of its Coventry plant with...

British State Terrorism

Regions:

It is now almost a year since the London bombings of July 2005 and, as we predicted, these bombings have provided the pretext for a further assault on civil rights and an escalation of repression. On the one hand, acts of parliament have been used to provide the legal basis for repression while, on the other hand, the forces of repression have been used to create a climate of terror.

Shipwreck of US Ambitions

Society on the point of breakdown · In late May and early June, first Blair and then Bush visited Baghdad to congratulate the new Prime Minister Maliki and proclaim that the formation of his government represented a new dawn for Iraq. These visits by the architects of the invasion, and their joint admission of the mistakes made after that invasion are a sign of desperation rather than a...
